Yes, most third party, work place insurance companies will cover Chiropody and custom made foot orthotics. Some companies also cover orthopedic footwear. Many veterans, insured with DVA Blue Cross, are also covered for Chiropody services. Foot care is not covered by OHIP. We recommend you check your individual plan coverage before your first appointment.
Diabetes can affect your feet in many different ways! The Canadian Diabetes Association recommends a yearly foot check up for everyone with diabetes. Our foot specialists will check the nerves and blood vessels in the feet for early signs of complications. We then advise you on any necessary treatment and special care you can do at home to keep your feet in tip-top shape!
Yes, many sports injuries are a result of overuse, some are because of biomechanical or alignment problems of the leg and foot, and some are from using incorrect footwear. A Chiropodist can help identify the cause of your injuries and prescribe anti-inflammatory medication, Laser Therapy and braces for the short term. The Chiropodist may also refer you to a Physio, or other therapist. For the long term, to help prevent further injuries, the Chiropodist may prescribe insoles or orthotics, suggest exercises and recommend certain types of footwear.
In Ontario, Chiropodists and Podiatrists are both licensed by the College of Chiropodists of Ontario. Podiatrists are American trained, Chiropodists are trained in Canada or UK. Both Chiropodists and Podiatrists are foot specialists and both groups are licensed to perform nail and soft-tissue surgery. Some podiatrists are also licensed to perform bone surgery (bunion or hammer toe reconstruction).
